Search Engine Optimisation and It’s Effects on the Business World

The word Google means various things to various people. Of course there is the saying “just Google it”, which can refer to almost anything you may want to know or find. And that of course means anywhere in the world. Very few of us really understand what Google is, where it is and exactly how it works. This new and dramatic impact on our lives in such a relatively very small time frame is simply extraordinary, to say the least. The area of major concern to all or all most all business people is that Google absolutely and mysteriously has total control over the rate at which any business may or may not grow. In fact a business man’s very survival or lack of it, depends on Google. The really Advancement In Technology Articles amazing fact about this is that Google does not communicate with anyone! There is no way anyone can discuss anything with anyone at Google. They can’t be contacted in any way and simply state that they publish guidelines and this has to be enough for everyone to live with. I am referring of course to their ranking of websites as a result of any given search query. If your site doesn’t appear on the first page (serp) search engine results page, or preferably in the top half, for any given enquiry, you may as well pack up and go home. The amount of business now being driven through the internet as opposed to other previously popular sources e.g. yellow pages is nothing short of phenomenal.
In the industry in which I have been involved with for the last 17 years, which is a substantial one at that, the internet as a source of business has gone from zero to approximately 70-80% of the total. This means that your very existence depends on your internet presence. That has created some more new words for the vocabulary and here I am referring to SEO. This stands for search engine optimisation, which means optimising your website to improve your position on Google’s serp. There is now an unofficial profession that has emerged from this internet/Google situation. I can state from firsthand experience that it has also spawned a plethora of supposedly knowledgeable people on the subject. I can also state from firsthand experience that these, or the vast majority of these, “seo consultants”, will sincerely convince you of their knowledge and charge you accordingly. As any results, positive or otherwise, take time to evolve, the benefits, if any, will be well down the track and of course by then expensive. This then is the situation almost every businessman finds himself in.
1. The internet, to a more or lesser degree depending on the type of business, now has a major share of the market for access to the buying public.
2. He then must have a strong internet presence to advertise or market his business.
3. Google in Australia currently has up to 90+% of the search engine market.
4. There is no way the average businessman can afford the time to study SEO himself.
5. There are no potential employees in this country available for assistance who have any of the knowledge required.
6. If he employs someone with a view to them studying SEO, and there is a lot of material available on the internet, then it will be some time before he may see a result. First he has to learn about SEOing How To Use Technology Effectively and then he has to be able to apply it (considerable computer skills required, even an IT degree) and then he has to wait some considerable time for it to have an effect. By now an expensive exercise!
7. And here’s the real rub, Google has the internet by the short and curly’s and therefore does not and will not communicate with anyone who is trying to get a handle on this subject.
I can tell you from experience that “SEOing” is continually changing and is certainly becoming more complex. Google’s algorithms are very complex and extensive. Where this is all going to end is anyone’s guess. I, fortunately, had a brief and successful experience in this regard but am now retired, but can only wonder how those following can deal this unbelievable dilemma!
